The more useless you are, the more you live like a person. Why are artworks so beautiful? Because they are utterly useless, while life is full of ugly scenes because it is all about intentions and purposes. All neglected relationships stem from the lack of expectations for each other. Love is beautiful; even a toad can fall in love with a swan, but marriage is ugly, involving too many relational interests: in-laws, parents, and relatives. The more useless something is, the freer it makes you feel, while the more calculated it is, the more suffocating it becomes. True freedom is not about gaining but about having no one trying to squeeze anything out of you. The less intention something has, the purer, longer-lasting it becomes, while a world filled with ulterior motives feels increasingly ugly. So if you want to live elegantly, you need to learn to have less purpose and more uselessness. Because the most beautiful things in the world never seek rewards. Sometimes, the best way to survive is to learn to waste—waste some time, waste some sincerity, and even waste a bit of yourself.
