There are too many people in China who are depressed because they do not know how to please themselves. One must learn to please oneself. Some money may seem like a waste, but in reality, it is preventing oneself from becoming depressed. If a person has no material desires, then they are not far from depression. Drinking a cup of coffee, buying a piece of clothing, or purchasing some useless little things are all necessary expenses to maintain mental health. One durian can buy a hundred eggs, but when I am unhappy, I cannot eat a hundred eggs. Some spending should not be called spending; it should be called mental maintenance fees. Moderately satisfying material desires is an important way to maintain mental health. The spirit of drinking a cup of coffee, the anticipation of opening a package, these small joys come together to become the support that enables us to keep moving forward. There is no need to be too restrained, nor is there a need to be too extravagant. Do not feel guilty for spending a little money; one’s physical and mental health and sense of happiness are the most important.
